R.I.P. to the 26 Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting Victims

Composer/Lyricist Jason Robert Brown has found a way to honor all 26 victims who were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School by listing their names in his song, "TWENTY-SIX NAMES." Gone too soon. We will never forget!

R.I.P. Phyllis Diller

Legendary comedian Phyllis Diller passed away today at the age of 95. An icon in the world of comedy, Ms. Diller started her comedy career at the age of 37, paving the way for two generations of female comics. In addition to comedy, she made appearances on numerous variety shows on television, painted, wrote books, and starred in a few movies.

I will always remember that famous laugh that went hand in hand with Ms. Diller as well as her guest starring role on "Scooby-Doo" (I know out of the things she did this is what I remember, but for me, growing up, that was a memorable episode).

Thank you Phyllis for the many years of laughter and joy!

R.I.P. Nora Ephron

Playwright, director, essayist, filmmaker, screenwriter, and novelest, Nora Ephron, passed away on June 25, 2012 from pneumonia. She was 71.

Nora Ephron had quite a career! I feel lucky to have been able to experience her brilliance. Thank you Nora for bringing us such movies as "Sleepless in Seattle," "When Harry Met Sally," "You've Got Mail," and "Julie & Julia" as well as the hit Off-Broadway play, "Love, Loss, and What I Wore," which she wrote with her sister Delia Ephron!

Your insight, humor, and talent will be missed!

R.I.P. Doris Belack

Film, stage, and television star Doris Belack passed away on October 4, 2011. I will always remember her as Illeana Douglas' mother in the Off-Broadway show "Surviving Grace" (where I got to meet her) and for her guest starring role on "The Golden Girls" as "Gloria," "Dorothy's" sister (played by Bea Arthur). She touched my life with laughter and I will forever remember her for that!

The rest of the world will probably remember her as tough-minded producer "Rita Marshall" in "Tootsie" and as "Judge Margaret Barry," a recurring character on "Law & Order" from 1999-2001. Her final TV appearance was in 2003 as "Lenore" in "Sex and The City's" "Hop, Skip, and a Week."

Doris made her Broadway debut in "Semi-Detached," which was produced by her husband Philip Rose (who was best known as one of the producers on the original produciton of Broadway's "A Raisin In The Sun," he passed away on May 31, 2011). Doris' other theatrical credits include "The Heroine," "Nathan Weinstein," "Mystic, Connecticut," "The Ninety Day Mistress," and "The Cemetery Club."

Doris got most of her early work in soap operas. She was the original "Anna Wolek Craig" on "One Life to Live" and played the lead role of a captain of an undercover anticrime unit of the NYPD in the short-lived television sitcom called "Baker's Dozen."

Thank you Doris for making so many of us laugh and be touched by your work!

R.I.P. Stephen Gately

Boyzone band member Stephen Gately passed away this Saturday, October 10 while vacationing on the Spanish Island of Majorca with is partner Andrew Cowles. Boyzone was one of Ireland's best-selling bands with six No.1 singles in the UK and four No. 1 albums. The band separated in 2000 to pursue solo projects, but reunited in 2008 and released a greatest hits album, "Back Again...No Matter What." One of my personal favorite Stephen Gately songs was "I Believe" from the motion picture soundtrack "Billy Elliot." Below is that video...for "I Believe" Stephen will continue singing where ever he is and his music and legacy will continue to live on....R.I.P. Stephen.
