Closer

On Wednesday, September 21, 2011, I saw Seeing Place Theater's production of Patrick Marber's "Closer," directed by Alan Gordon. This is the third season that I've attended shows at this growing theater company and "Closer" is my favorite production thus far! A show that deals with love, hurt, and reflection, "Closer" draws you into the lives of two couples struggling to make their relationships work.

Bringing this show to life are Erin Cronican, Elyse Fisher, Nick Velkov, and Brandon Walker. All of these actors work well together and have good stage presence. As "Anna," Erin uses her beauty, innoncence, and ultimate seduction to rope in "Larry" then Dan" and "Larry" once more, while Elyse's confidence, sultriness, and ultimate insecurity as "Alice" lures "Dan" in first, followed by "Larry" and rounding back to "Dan." Brandon's "Dan," shows off his flirtiness and romance to woo "Alice" then "Anna" and once again "Alice" where as "Larry," Nick uses his power and manliness to reel in "Anna" then "Alice" and ultimately "Anna" for a second time. The back and forth is used well as a tool to show the dysfunctional side of love no matter how much passion is there.
