Review: Rated RSO: The Music of Ryan Scott Oliver

On Monday, January 25, 2010, I attended "Rated RSO: The Music of Ryan Scott Oliver" at Joe's Pub. This was the first time I have ever heard Ryan's music and I soon learned, I was in for a treat. His songs are very satirical & humorous, with some emotionally heavier, but they all tell a story or help push a story along. Ryan had quite a roster of performers which included: two fellow "Adaumbelle's Quest" participants Andrew Kober & Eric Michael Krop, along with Kacie Sheik, Natalie Weiss, Stephen DeRosa, Morgan Karr, and Lindsay Mendez. I particularly enjoyed all the songs from the shows "Darling" (book by Ryan Scott Oliver & Kirsten Guenther) & "Mrs. Sharp" (book by Ryan Scott Oliver & B.T. Ryback) as well as "Odyssey" sung by Eric Michael Krop, "Hemming and Hawing" sung by Andrew Kober and Kacie Sheik, "The Plane is Going Down" sung by Stephen DeRosa, "On Monday" sung by Natalie Weiss, and "The Ballad of Sara Berry" sung by Lindsay Mendez. The evening came to a rousing end with Morgan Karr, Lindsay Mendez, and company rocking the roof with "Song of the Dead Fairy." It was a great way to end an enjoyable evening.
