2015 Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk

Team Rothenberg 2013Team Rothenberg 2014It's that time of year again when "Team Rothenberg" will be participating in the "Making Strides" Breast Cancer walk on Long Island on Sunday, October 18!

I walk with many people on my mind...first and foremost my mother, who continues to be cancer free after being diagnosed in 2003. I also walk for my Aunt Rose who's a breast cancer survivor, Bobby Flynn, a wonderful woman I worked with from 1999-2001 in Boston, who unfortunately lost her battle with breast cancer, so I continue to walk for her. I also walk for my friend Carissa Maringo who lost her fight to cancer in 2009 at the young age of 32. Finally, I walk for all those people out there who have been affected by Breast Cancer and for those who can't walk!

If you are able to make a contribution, your support would mean a lot, whether it's $1, $5, $10, $50, $100, or more! Thank you for your time! Click here to donate!

The New York Pops On Broadway featuring Tony Award nominees Andrew Rannells and Stephanie J Block

Andrew Rannells, Stephanie J. Block, and Steven Reineke at The New York Pops "On Broadway"Steven Reineke, The New York Pops Musical Director/ConductorI had a blast at The New York Pops' On Broadway concert on Friday, March 21 at Carnegie Hall! Featuring Tony Award nominees Andrew Rannells and Stephanie J. Block, this concert was spectacular! The song selection was incredible and Steven Reineke, New York Pops Musical Director/Conductor was right when he said Andrew and Stephanie were going to belt their faces off! Man, they sure did! Steven was also spot on during my interview with him prior to the concert when he said this was an event and if you weren't there, you missed out on something special. That statement couldn't be more true!

I felt so lucky to have been in attendance. I heard so many of my favorite Broadway songs performed by two of the most magnificent voices (Andrew & Stephanie), backed by one of the greatest orchestras in the world (New York Pops), and lead by one of the top Music Directors/Conductors in Pops history (Steven). I was also introduced to some new songs I had never heard.

My favorite selections of the night performed by The New York Pops alone were selections from Gypsy, the South Pacific Overture, and Cinderella Waltz. There is something quite magical about hearing a full orchestra which is one of things I LOVE most about attending a New York Pops concert. What a treat to get to hear this orchestra play some of the most beloved overtures and song selections in theatrical history!

I LONG for the days of when Broadway shows employed full orchestras. I really hope one day they go back to it. The money it costs do so is SO worth it!

Tony Award nominee and star of NBC's "The New Normal" Andrew Rannells at The New York Pops "On Broadway"Tony Award nominee Stephanie J. Block at The New York Pops "On Broadway"Stephanie J. Block and Andrew Rannells left me in awe! I'm still in amazement at just how talented they both are. What voices! My mouth watered for more! Stephanie J. Block reeled me in and captured me with "Don't Rain On My Parade," seduced me with "Children Will Listen," delighted me when she sang "Meadowlark," and killed me on "Defying Gravity." Andrew Rannells had me on "The Streets of Dublin," kept me with "Love Who You Love" (both from A Man of No Importance), lifted me to new heights with "What Kind of Fool Am I," but it was his rendition of "Being Alive" from Company that really got me. What an incredible way to make the song his own. I could listen to him sing that over and over and over again! It gave new meaning to the song in so many ways! I loved it when Stephanie and Andrew sang together, especially with "Move On" and "I Have Dreamed."

The post-show gathering was so much fun! Everyone was there and I loved getting to take pictures of everyone, seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and catching up with many of my past participants who were there. Through these pictures, I hope you enjoy this evening as much as I have!

I can't wait to attend my next New York Pops concert! If you have never seen them, their 31st Birthday Gala - MAKE IT BIG will be one to see on April 28 at 7pm! It's an evening honoring March Shaiman, Scott Wittman, and Paul J. Massey, JR. Scheduled to appear are Nikki Blonsky, Christian Borle, Kerry Butler, Will Chase, Linda Hart, Capathia Jenkins, Jane Krakowski, Ricki Lake, Jennifer Lewis, Patti LuPone, Andrea Martin, Katherine McPhee, Martin Short, Marissa Jaret Winokur, and many more!
